The Diner:
Complete with vinyl booths and vanilla shakes, The Diner is a throwback to the real 1950s variety, with a modern, upscale twist—the owners come from the likes of Candela, Rue 57, and Tao. It takes over the space where the less chic but beloved staple Nick’s used to be. Like its forbearer, it’s also a relatively affordable Meatpacking District/Chelsea late-night drink and nosh spot, truly an oxymoron in a neighborhood where cocktails cost as much as dental work. Pre-dawn breakfast-seekers can get a goat cheese and spinach or bacon and cheddar omelet along with a vodka tonic, cosmopolitan, or one of many specialty cocktails on the list. Otherwise, just prop yourself on a black and silver barstool and survey the scene of young, attractive drunk people chowing down as a DJ spins in the background on the weekends. Who knew models ate?
