The Gibson: Give the owners of Williamsburg lounge The Gibson their propers. First, they had to coax an angry Community Board into granting them a license, as the neighborhood started a movement against its noisy predecessor, Triple Crown. Then, they had to establish themselves in a flooded McCarren Park market, surrounded by institutions like Turkey's Nest, Royal Oak and Mugs Ale House. But, as its name implies, The Gibson distinguishes themselves from the other dives by offering a chill, candlelit atmosphere around its dark wooden interior. The whole glass perimeter completely opens up on nice days, allowing river breezes to come a 'waftin'. And, because it's the 'Burg, The Gibson caters to the cost conscious, offering good deals like 2 for 1 draft and well drinks until 8, and cheap PBRs (of course, that's amidst its $10-$15 scotch and bourbon selections). And let's not forget to mention the recently-launched Nintendo Wii Bowling Night (so you can skip the bowling alley up the street). So, yeah, it's a chill place, but it's still Brooklyn. |
