The Growler Station:
Growlers have become all the rage in a city that loves drinking on the go, and the fad hits a crescendo with a complete “station” dedicated to filling jugs. Owned by sports personality Dan Patrick—and when you think craft beer you think...Dan Patrick?—The Growler Station has its own proprietary filling stations, which create less foam and waste when topping off your 32 or 64 oz., or 2 Liter (“The Beast”) growlers. (That means more beer for you.) There are 24 taps (listed on changing TV screens) with stuff from places like Bronx Brewery and Denmark’s Evil Twin (prices varying) and nearly 200 additional bottles. The only caveat is there’s no drinking in shop, so you’ll have to tote that growler home and share your drink with your Mr. Sniffles instead of other beer aficionados. With another location in Connecticut, The Growler Station is looking to expand its franchises far and wide, like a Cheesecake Factory except for, you know, getting drunk.
The Growler Station in NYC is actually majority owned by a group of 4 beer loving individuals, with Dan Patrick being a Minority 5th partner in the store, who is supplying the monthly draft picks. The store uses technology in pouring for a better beer, and an in store iPad app for helping patrons find just the right beer. Also, the location in Connecticut is the head office. A second location is opening in Greenville, SC. in April.
