The Immigrant:
The Immigrant is just as welcoming as Ellis Island during the turn of the century (only with fewer regulations), bringing together East Village locals, an array of foreign wines and nightly entertainment (check out their Monday night jazz). Taking over the window front of an old tenement building, the renovations were kept to a minimum—11 seats comfortably fit around the front marble bar and 20 seats are scattered around dark wood tables in the back, although unique glass chandeliers and hand-crafted wooden accents add a little “je ne sais quoi.” Usually, the seats are occupied with thirty-something locals along with a few passersby who actually recognize the understated front as a wine bar. That’s the great thing about The Immigrant; located a block away from the bustle of Saint Marks, it stands as a hideout for locals and the “immigrants” to the neighborhood alike.
