The Lion:
This clubby bistro once housed the cabaret where Babs Streisand got her big break. You won't hear any singing now, let alone be able to figure out what the guy on your left is hollering in your ear, but who really cares when you've got an A-plus wine list? The reincarnated Lion is thriving with hordes who are no strangers to restaurateur John DeLucie, who is taking a break from hoity-toity hot spot Waverly Inn to open this joint. At least The Lion plays no door games—waltz right in, but don't be surprised if you can't crack the upstairs private dining nook (they've got to put Ashton and Demi somewhere).The rough-hewn, wood and barrel decor is brought to life by Megan Sharpe and the scene is brimming with excess testosterone (think Captain Ahab develops an eye for art). It's a great snare for men and the women who want to 'hook' them, and will keep you occupied as you make your way through the extensive vino selections. Start with Aquinta do Crasto Douro, take down a portion of lobster pot pie, and watch this bar scene roar.
