The Mussel Pot: In a neighborhood where a three-course dinner usually means burger-shot-beer, new restaurant The Mussel Pot—serving up a dozen takes on, er, mussels—seems to have landed on the wrong block. In fact, the golden, buffered space seems more appropriate for the block that Jenny’s from—at least, the one she’s from now—in Miami. Exit chaotic Bleecker Street and enter a semi-enclosed bar area, where you can sip a drink and wait for perpetually late friends (try the Vodka Lemonade with muddled strawberries). In the back dining room, beige leather benches and sleek lighting provide a canvas for the more feminine touches, like shimmering pink chandeliers, tulips and beach-scene prints. A glassed back wall looks out onto a caved patio, where in warmer weather you can sample seared tuna and beer-poached shrimp cocktail while gazing into a waterfall-fed pool with sea creatures of the more alive variety. The drinks themselves are dainty—Lychee Martinis and Mojitos—and don’t stand a chance next to cream-drenched dishes like Blue Mussel Rigatoni and Lobster Mac-n-Cheese. So unless you’re going for J.Lo’s signature booty, best to stick with one of the dozens of variations on the standard pot o’ mussels.
