The Pan American (closed): No matter what America you hail from (North, South, Texas), this SoHo restaurant/bar has something to make you feel right at home and something to make you feel worlds away. Take the décor, which kind of looks like a classic diner…if the diner were electrified with Miami flair. On the menu, American classics like Mac‘n’Cheese (gluten-free, no less) seamlessly blend with Latin favorites like Guacamole, sometimes in the same dish (Arroz con Pollo Frito a.k.a. Rice with Fried Chicken, $19). But no trip to the Pan American is complete without a tour of its cocktails ($11-14). Southerners will devour the bourbon-based Knewton’s Apple, $14 while those from south-of-the-border will go loco for the Jalapeno Margarita, $13. Everyone, however, should end their meal with a Monkey’s Tail—good luck somewhere we’re sure—a warming blend of Ocucaje Pisco, espresso and Kahlua, $12. Trust us, a night here will make you proud to be an American...of whatever variety you choose. |
