The Rusty Knot:
Summer in the city: what a dilemma. Spend a chunk of your savings on a twin bed in a share-house or risk being left behind. Fortunately, thanks to the Rusty Knot, your Hamptons-free summer can still be filled with ocean air, gorgeous sunsets, and just-tough-enough doormen to make you feel special once you’re inside. Located along the West Side Highway, the bar catches the breeze off the Hudson, and the nautical-themed interior gives it that vacation-home feel. Drinks made with fresh fruit juice create a sense of luxury (as opposed to their boxed wine by the glass), and 99-cent beers give you bragging rights when your buddies return from the shore with a thousand-dollar tab. Baskets of fried pier food—oysters, clams—seal the deal. If you’re stopping by after dark and you’re not an Olsen twin, come early to avoid the line; no one likes waiting for vacation to start.
Heavy with the B&T types, just all around annoying.

Like the place, like the food, like the bartenders, but then I go earlier in the evening, after work, so have not encountered any crowds, celebrities, or door attitude.
