The Shanty:
Usually a bar attached to a distillery would simply be a tasting room/gift shop, trying to push some product. Not so at The Shanty, the New York Distilling Company’s own low-key saloon. The small and dark, oak-and-iron-built spot has a bay-window view of the distilling floor which is currently producing two different kinds of gin and a few additional works in process. Acclaimed mixologists use the distillery’s own spirits and others to craft cocktails like the Tot and Tonic and The Acerbic Mrs. Parker (that’s Dorothy Parker, the gin’s influence) made with hibiscus syrup ($12). If you’re taking it easy, three local beers like Brooklyn Lager are on tap as well. No food, no problem, the drinks have more than enough good things in them. There’s nothing shabby about this Shanty!
