The Tea Set: Generally when you think of afternoon tea, your first thought is stuffy British society members wearing outfits as frilly as the cups they’re sipping from. Spicing up (and spiking up) the tea scene is The Tea Set, a new champagne and tea room in the West Village. Grab a seat in their cozy dining room, where colorful pillows line the banquettes and floral chairs give the place just enough of an antique feel without becoming overly formal. Unique organic blends come by the glass mug ($3.90) but you’ll find it hard to resist the Afternoon 2 Trays Fountain ($39.90), which comes with your choice of tea, a glass of champagne, assorted pastries, macaroons and finger sandwiches (forget cucumber, how’s curry chicken sound?), as well as fresh organic spreads. Wine and champagne is available by the glass or bottle, and there’s a selection of organic beers as well ($7.90). And since this is a tea AND champagne room, why not try both together with their signature champagne cocktail ($15)—a glass of Pommery infused with a special blend of red tea, plus peach and vanilla accents. |
