The Tippler: Chelsea Market has been the mecca for everything a New Yorker might need, and now it’s become the go-to when that thing is a stiff one. Beneath the bustling thoroughfares of the Market, find The Tippler: a 3,000 square foot bar with all the charm of a speakeasy (Subterranean! Creative cocktails! Bartenders in vests!), but without the never-really-secret secrecy gimmicks. Twenty- and thirty-somethings sip drinks like Curly & The Turk (gin, curacao, lemon, hibiscus, chile and Moroccan bitters, $11) and interesting beers like Menabrea Ambrata ($8) as they debate whether they could fit the resto’s ornate rugs into their Chelsea studios. Avid tipplers will note food options like homemade potato chips ($3) and white bean puree ($7), ideal for mitigating tomorrow’s hangover after tonight’s “lushies” (oh yes, alcoholic slushies). Then again, if you have your own tried and true remedy, you can always buy the ingredients upstairs.
