The Upstairs @ The Kimberly Hotel:
When you walk into the natty lobby of Midtown’s Kimberly Hotel, you’re sure to think “um, what?” and consider jumping ship. While the downstairs décor fits if you’re wearing a 1986 pants suit (yes, with shoulder pads), don’t worry, the rooftop digs deliver. Upstairs is the hotel’s shockingly swank penthouse lounge, and there’s nary a shoulder pad in sight (though we may have spotted a dude sporting a monocle). The crowd is the moneyed Midtown type—suits aplenty sit in the sleek black chairs that line the deck, and the ties loosen as everyone kicks back some cocktails. With the specialty drinks priced at $18, you’re better off sticking with a slightly less expensive standard martini or a glass of wine ($12-$16). The small plates are more recession-friendly: snack on some truffled mac n’ cheese ($12) as you hang underneath the charming exposed bulbs that light the spot. Added bonus—a retractable rooftop means you can enjoy the views (and we’re not talking about the Chrysler Building) rain or shine.
Went to Upstairs, absolutely gorgeous views. Food was amazing,(I hade the sliders. The drink menus were priced right for midtown and were delicious. Went on and Thursday night, great upscale crowd. I will definitely be visiting Upstairs again!
