The Vander Bar @ The Roosevelt:
Although Vander Bar’s name alludes to a certain surname that frequents Gossip Girl lips, the new bar in the Roosevelt Hotel is, surprisingly, just that: a bar. Don't expect this place to be packed with a bunch of wanna-be Serenas and Blairs, as any gossip in this tight Midtown joint would revolve around the suit-n-ties cutting loose during Friday’s lunch or happy hour. Going for a quintessential “pub atmosphere,” Vander Bar features a dark, thick wooden bar alongside an intimate lounge space. Focusing on the drinks and not the décor allows the friendly bartender to concoct some excellent cocktails ($12-14), such as the signature “Vanderbilt Punch” (Captain Morgan and Jack Daniels mixed with a plethora of fruit juices) or the unexpected “Madison Ave Mai Tai” (Clemente V.S.O.P Rum and Clement Creole Shrubb mixed with lime juice, orgeat syrup and a dash of pineapple). A couple of these alongside some munchies, such as chicken wings and lobster macaroni and cheese, and you'll be glad Vander wasn't "bilt" up too much.
