The Vanderbilt: According to Forbes, 19th-century railroad tycoon Cornelius Vanderbilt was (and remains?) the tenth most wealthy person in history. And at the Fort Green restaurant that bears his name, you, too, can receive a similarly affluent experience—even if your budget is more like that of number 11 on the list (or, um, even number 4,567). To create this sublime eatery, the owners of Saul, Brooklyn’s critically-acclaimed dining sanctuary, teamed up with dynamite chef, Ben Daitz. The team's tapas-like offerings make it possible to nibble on a myriad of flavors, from Brussels sprouts in sirachia, lime and honey ($4) to crispy pigs tails in sauce gribiche ($9). If you aren’t in the mood to munch, grab a seat at the white marble bar—beneath ornate chandeliers—and sip from the list of $9 cocktails. We suggest the Black Cherry Rickey, a concoction made with vodka and soda, drizzled with black cherry syrup and splashed with a hint of lime. But whatever you have, you'll leave feeling pretty damn good, knowing that you haven't dropped a peg on that Forbes list. |
