The Woods: We admit: that faux-rustic name had us worried. We half-expected to arrive at yet another Williamsburg bar festooned with deer heads, slinging PBR to the ironic strains of some Glen Campbell record. Instead, we have found our next Brooklyn party destination. Once you get past the long (long, long, long) bar, The Woods opens up to a roomy dance floor surrounded by an elegant brick interior, where many a reveler can comfortably bust a move. Because the place shares ownership with fellow Southside club Savalas, expect top-notch rock, hip-hop and '80s DJs to be working one of the best sound systems we've heard in a long while. Plus, a small stage helps fill Williamsburg's live music needs, should this place opt to go that direction. And what would a bar in this area be without a backyard patio, complete with a taco truck? The bartenders, serving up an affordable, middling list of beers (some with shot specials) seem one step behind the Opening Week chaos, so the place isn't out of the Woods yet. But now that we've had to surrender Union Pool to the interlopers, we have a new place to go.
