The Wooly:
Rumored to have pushed “downtown chic” back to, well, downtown, The Wooly bestows private parties with legit vintage charm from the basement of the Woolworth Building, a National Historic Landmark. Unfortunately, there are no “Empire State” appetizers or “Chrysler Building” cocktails available on the menu, because—unlike the late Beatrice or other places of this ilk—The Wooly is truly a “private” venue space. Nonetheless, with support from his pop (who owns the Woolworth Tower Kitchen), Eric Adolfsen has built The Wooly's mammoth buzz with a strategic mix of pitch-perfect era decor and contemporary media hot-shots (think supermodels and vintage settees). Sometimes the hosts even invite strays to the party—so perhaps those whispers that say The Wooly will soon go public are true. Until then, hanging out in FiDi hoping to bully your way in might not be (wool)worth your while.
