Theater Bar:
Overexcited bartenders have long been tossing their tequila—think Tom Cruise in Cocktail, or those hot chicks from Coyote Ugly. At Tribeca bar Theater Bar (Teatro) the bartender's booze-juggling skills aren't just encouraged, they're required. Mixologist acrobatics are the main act in this club—expect booze to be flaming and flying while bartenders toss in some singing, juggling and other circus tricks. The bar has a trick of its own, spinning on its platform in a space dressed up with velvet curtains, red paint and gaudy tassels forming a Moulin Rouge-style marquee. The open, vaulted-ceiling design invokes a Broadway theater, which works with a full house, but may make you feel all alone onstage on a slower night. If that’s the case, you can always crawl up to the second story “opera boxes” for some privacy (and the performances that you can imagine go on up there). Mixologist Albert Trummer (of Apothekefame) seems to have no shame in taking the cocktails over-the-(big)top as well, with drinks like the Mariachi turning tricks right at your table.
