Tiny's and The Bar Upstairs: Aging scenesters, rejoice! The Beatrice Inn may be long shuttered, but owner Matt Abramcyk’s new neighborhood joint is imbued with the same trendy vibe, complete with salvaged antique Americana décor, well-dressed neighborhood regulars, and even the iconic American flag that once hung behind the DJ booth at the Beatrice. The business lunch crowd comes to indulge in expertly prepared burgers (topped with a fried egg, bleu cheese and pickled beets, $10), but in the evenings, patrons become more focused on the Bar Upstairs and all the downtown-cool it can contain. Tiny’s name may be derived from the portion sizes of entrees like the Pan Seared Scallops ($23) or, alternatively, how small you’ll feel if/when the hostess informs you that there are no available tables (even though you can see one…right…there). Of course, Tiny’s also has the power to enlarge—sipping a Soft Serve Old Fashioned (hickory-smoked vanilla bean-infused bourbon, orange flower, cacao, marascino and bitters, $13) with the most attractive 30-somethings this side of Canal will make even the most jaded New Yorker feel 10 feet tall.
