Tir Na Nog:
Don’t let Tir Na Nog’s traditional Gaelic name fool you; this place is as contrived, overpriced, and miss-able as the TGIFriday’s next door. After-work Midtowners and stranded travelers give it the stale atmosphere of an airport bar, without the joy of leaving. Love fried seafood? Perhaps you’ll enjoy these huge portions; but those of us seeking a varied menu should move along. The Guinness, though poured perfectly, is sadly less delicious when brought to you by the condescending staff. Things seemed different for the regulars, but that’s not a good reason to become one. If you aren’t stranded at Penn Station or meeting a hefty crew after work, take your money and hightail it outta here.
I don't get this at all. Tir Na Nog is my favorite place in NYC. Bernie and Kevin are solid bar keeps without a condescending bone in their body. My wife tries Shepherd's Pie everywhere she goes and says Tir Na Nog's is the best she's ever had. Salmon is my benchmark, and they prepare it marvelously. As you note, they also pour a mean pint of Guinness and just added some American craft beers that add to the experience.
