Toro:
With its dashing, bedazzled men, restless beasts and penchant for drawing blood, bullfighting is probably the most dramatic of all sports. Expect much of the same in the basement of the Smyth Thompson Hotel, where the sexy and swanky Toro attracts some of Tribeca's most potent partygoers like bulls seeing red. Dressed-up crowds willing to wait for entrance clutter the cobblestones in hopes of getting in on the action. Once inside, they’ll sip on Latin-inspired cocktails like a Cherry Mojito or a “Feria” (Stoli vanilla, Malibu and fresh raspberries, $13) while being seen on red velvet banquettes or escaping back to a cozy corner booth. Toro’s square footage is modest but the décor is not, with Matador capes and bull horns bringing Spanish flair to rustic wooden walls. The Smyth Thompson is what celebs like the Kardashian sisters call a home away from home, so expect the occasional papa-paparazzi to charge in.
