Instead of a grab-and-go Chipotle bol, take full advantage of your lunch break and curb your Mexican food cravings in a much classier environment at Tortaria. The slightly campy ‘n’ colorful South-of-the-Border-inspired space serves up hearty tortas—a.k.a. Mexican griddle sandwiches—with fillings such as yummy panko-crusted chicken cutlets and slow-roasted pulled pork (both $7.81). If you’re in the mood for somethin’ smaller after work, there’s a variation of scrumptious Mexi-style sides such as house-made guacamole ($2.53) and Corn Esquites (char-grilled corn on the cob with Queso Fresco, chipotle mayo, chili powder and a squeeze of fresh lime, $2.76), plus more American eats like Spicy French Fries ($2.53) and Frizzled Onion Rings ($3.22). Although the outside looks like a simple blue bodega, the inside seats 65 people and features a tequila bar stocked with top-shelf liquor. It's like an all-grown-up version of those meet-me-after-work, budget-friendly Mexican spots you used to go for too-salty margaritas, in a completely awesome way (and their tequila list won't have you calling out sick the next day).
