Upstate:
Satiating your craving for a visit Upstate is now as easy as heading Downtown. This new nightlife addition to the East Village is not only run by cousins who grew up near Syracuse, but its wood details were also once a barn from the same locale. Coupled with exposed brick and filament light bulbs, the overall effect is a cozy neighborhood joint filled with laid-back locals sipping beer and wine at prices more often found well north of our city limits ($6 craft brews, $7-10 glasses of wine). The fare is decidedly seaside in style, with raw Little Neck Clams ($1.50/pc) and several varieties of oysters on offer ($2-$2.75/pc) in addition to larger dishes like Salmon Poke ($10) and Seared Scallops ($15). So, next time you’re craving some small-town charm, you might as well skip the four-hour drive in a Zipcar—grab your Metrocard instead.
