Murray Hill—land of beer, button-downs, and flatscreens—gets a style upgrade with Van Diemens, a cavernous space with a party loft. The Irish and Aussie owners may call their bar "Van Diemens" after the original name for Tasmania, but it features a mostly American café menu, a large selection of brews, and a couple of plasmas. Tin ceilings, exposed brick, a glass front, and a private mezzanine with a skylight and a second bar help it stand out from the pub scene. Dim, dramatic lighting keeps the crowd looking good, and nightly DJs keep them on their feet. Just watch out for those Murray Hill i-bankers by day who fancy themselves Tasmanian devils by night.
I was just recently at Van Diemens for a holiday party and I had an awesome time. The place was mobbed yet the service was great, the drinks were fantastic(great beer selection) and the dj kept everyone shaking their asses. All in all it was a great vibe, thank you Van Diemens for an awesome night. I am looking forward to the NYE party!

i just celebrated my birthday at Van Diemens. My friends and I had an amazing time. I would definitely go back and I would definitely recommend it to everyone! The drinks were great, the music was awesome, and we really got VIP treatment!

This place is awesome!! I've lived in Murray Hill for over two years and I go to this bar all the time. Totally different from all the other bro-bars in the area, this place is great for game watching or Saturday nights.
