Van Gogh's Radio: Named after the kooky owner's '90s pop band, Van Gogh's Radio is a perfect representation of Greenpoint: a simple little bar for locals, a place that's "open to anything." To prove it, the place is equipped with unique extras, like a TV projector, happy hour specials, video jukebox, PA system, velvet couches and twice-weekly DJs. If you're in North Greenpoint, and don't want to deal with a scene, or you just want to have a Yuengling ($4) privately, you'll be visiting this Radio with "frequency." If you're a lady looking to get loaded for free on a quiet Monday night, this is your spot on the dial. If your band is decent, talk to the owner, and you may be able to play a set there. If you have a film to release, they'll air it (if they can figure out the projector). Most important, Greenpointers, this is a great place to either meet your neighbors, or assemble your pals for a drink or 5 with no drama or loud ambient noise. And if that ain't Greenpoint, nothing is. |
