Vig Bar
Vig is an old-school gambling term, but what’s in a name? This NoLita lounge is more new-school, with an ultra-clean interior design that’s accented by colorful booths, tea lights, and velvet curtains. Vig is your standard after-work, trendster bar where the more mature crowd stops in for libations that are a far cry from the $2 pint. The DJ is the highlight of the Vig experience, providing a cool retro soundtrack for couples that are one or two martinis away from dry-humping over in the corner. Either way, the crowd is a few cards shy of a full deck of balls-out fun; whether you choose to hit it up or pass all together is your call.

Though I had been to this small (seriously--feels like a small two-bedroom apartment) bar before, I had never been to the bar on a weekend.

First, the bouncers were total a-holes. When asked if they could accommodate one female, one of them actually pretended to hauk a loogey on her and told her to get in the back of the line. After standing in the cold for 45mins with no movement, one person asked a bouncer how much longer they thought we were going to wait. He proceeded to tell us that we had only three purposes in life: to eat, crap (although he used another word) and die. Then he told us to shut up. To boot, they were letting in random guys (??).

The manager was inconsiderate and unresponsive. Though he came out to randomly bring people in with him, he ignored people for the first hour we were in line. Finally a burly guy in the back grabbed his arm and asked him what the deal was. He claimed the bar was far too crowded to let people in--while he was coming out to find people to take inside with him. Overall douche.

Finally, someone on the 3rd/4th fl of the apt building overhead was throwing eggs down on the line for the 1.5 hours we were there.

Awful. Honestly, if service, courtesy and space mean anything to you, avoid this bar like the plague. I've never written a review before, and I hope I never have the occasion to do it again.

I've been to Vig Bar several times now, usually just to meet friends before going somewhere else. However, we wandered in last Thursday for a night cap and stayed for several hours. The DJ was so much fun. Is it new or progressive music? No, but it was a blast.
