Viktor & Spoils: We don’t exactly know who Viktor is, but his Spoils are well worth sampling. Deep in the basement of the Hotel Rivington, this hip Lower East Side taqueria has a noteworthy tequila list, but its mezcal wares are even more impressive. If you’re not into sippin’ straight booze, plenty of “gringo-friendly” libations are likewise available, from “clasico” cocktails such as the Michelada and spicy Smokin’ Margarita (all cocktails, $14), to fizzy yellow cervezas that are pretty much what you’d expect (Corona, Tecate, etc., $8 each). Of course, you’re going to have to soak up the booze in your belly with “nuevo” Mexican eats, far better than they need to be. From nachos available with a variety of unique toppings such as roasted cactus ($10, $4 extra for special toppings) to a plethora of tacos (housemade chorizo, etc., $12 each), even Taco Bell-loving fools should find something to fill their belly. Not to mention, with it’s spooky Day of the Dead-inspired candles, wooden walls, pulsing DJ beats, and a certain dark sexiness flooding the room, you might find more than just good food and drink. Spoil(s)er alert: you probably will.
