Village pulls off that rare feat—it’s upscale and classy without being pretentious or snobby, and, as a bonus, they do it without tricks such as irony, camp, or kitsch. Large front windows face the hustle and bustle of downtown Manhattan, which lets you appreciate the warm escape provided by this restaurant and bar. The handsome, dark wooden bar and impressive skylight signal that this is no dive. Mostly a scene for couples and low-key gatherings of friends, Village offers a varied and expansive wine list, which more than makes up for the limited selection of beers. The food is pricey but adored by the patrons. Perfect for second dates—or, if this is your third date, they also have an excellent brunch.
This is the perfect place to people watch, whether the people are inside or outside the restaurant. Even though the food was expensive, it was well worth the price. And with some great wines on the menu too, I really cannot complain.
