Vyne Bar:
If you are finally old enough to utter that sometimes-nauseating phrase, "back when I first moved to New York" (but you still live next door to NYU), you may find that Vyne Wine Bar & Restaurant, the newest chic lounge in the West Village, meets your “high-er” drinking and sipping standards. Don’t fret; Vyne’s upper-crust ambiance doesn’t imply that you have to hoard your entire entry-level salary to find salvation from the plethora of college pubs on the block, but instead caters to a crowd who actually appreciates the lulled jazz beats permeating from Zinc, the bar below. A large wine list, featuring chilled white wine just in time for New York’s summer, a few tasty draft beers and a number of dynamic cocktail concoctions (e.g., Goslings Dark Spiced Rum + Fentimans Ginger Beer) facilitate a very calm night out in Greenwich Village…so basically the exact opposite of every other night you’ve ever had in that area.
Based on the great review, I was really excited to try this place. And while I think it still has great potential, a few things really were disappointing. First off, we sat at a table and no one came to give us menus or take our orders so we went to the bar. I paid with a credit card and was shocked to discover that they charge sales tax on drinks. So when you read that your drink is 13 (pricey already) be ready to pay at least 14 on it. The bartender was gruff and had a don't blame me attitude about it which was equally annoying. Then when we returned to our seats we were forced to move for a private party, despite two other staffers previously mentioning that we could sit there. And finally, as soon as we finished our drinks in our new seats, a waitress asked us four times in a row if we wanted something else, obviously wanting us out if we weren't going to order something else in the next two minutes. Really horrible service for a place that could be such a welcome escape in the area.

Gem in the Village
Great wine, great food, fantastic decor. A real stand out among average places in the village.

friendly staff
I liked it. I was happily stunned by how good the food was: not oversalted or overspiced like so many places. wine wasn't expensive either. I had an austrian white. the place looks cool.
