Not since your first NYC apartment with five roommates and one bathroom has so little space been put to such great use.It may be tiny, but Waltz-Astoria serves as a tea and coffee shop, wine and dessert bar, and most of all, an artistic hub—all for the price of one.Opened in 2005, Waltz-Astoria is one of the spots making Astoria Brooklyn's unpretentious little sister when it comes to hosting creative types who fled Manhattan during the (now defunct) i-banker boom.But please don’t call this a hipster haven. The crowd here doesn’t collect checks from Mom and Dad back in Ohio just to waltz around telling people they’re “artists.”They’re serious about it. Waltz-Astoria boasts the most popular open mic in Queens every Wednesday night.They’re also relentlessly involved with locals in bringing in fresh installations and performances. Luckily, they’re just as serious about their sangria.
