Water Taxi Beach Governor's Island:
For those of you who aren’t summering in the Hamptons this year, Water Taxi Beach on Governor’s Island provides you with the same sun and sand (300 tons of sand to be exact) and is conveniently only a ferry-boat-ride away from Manhattan! Once a jail, then a military fort, and finally an army headquarters, Governor’s Island now plays host to a mini-golf course, a bike path (tandem bikes available—we know you were wondering) and the beach, which boasts two little snack bars, a concert space, and a large supply of beer and wine served in plastic cups. Great for a hot day when Central Park is overcrowded and alcohol-free, WTB hosts live bands or a DJ/MC combo churning out tunes and hosting spring break style competitions. So leave your stilettos at home (but come with your wet t-shirts) and get ready to dance barefoot on the beach!
