Watering Hole:
The Watering Hole might be the most accurately (and humbly) named bar in New York City. Typically nothing special, this faux-dive in the Flatiron district comes alive on Saturdays when it hosts well-attended karaoke nights. Daily drink specials are solid ($4 pints of corporate beer; $10 pitchers during games) and even free “small bites” from 5:30 to 6:30pm daily, though the food isn’t the best—expect standard bar fare (three sliders, $10; potato skins, $9) and, if you explore deep into the menu, “ritzier” items like a steak or two (sirloin, $23). An extraordinarily friendly staff and pleasant ambiance more than make up for the previous debits, though, and this humble little joint is ultimately a lot more fun than many of the more pretentious watering holes in the ‘hood.
