Weather Up Tribeca: Finally, there’s a place in TriBeCa (where else?) for you. An outpost of Brooklyn’s original location, Weather Up is the type of venue to harvest ice for cocktails with a special machine and chainsaw in the basement (it’s all about the ratio, people!). Walls of white subway tile, flickering candlelight, and a stuffed peacock at the end of the long copper-topped bar set the scene for thirty-somethings to mingle and forget about that last email back at the office. The quickest way to facilitate both is with a potent cocktail like the Quaker (rye whiskey, cognac, house-made grenadine and lemon, $14) or the Weather Up Jr. (cognac, amaretto, dry vermouth and champagne, $16). Anyone hoping for a less expensive night may cozy up in a two-seater booth with the “Broccoli Caviar” and Crab Rillette, served with sliced radish, crème fraiche and toast points ($10), or, you know, try a pub elsewhere instead. |
