Whitehall: Fans of Mary Queen of Scots and Highlands are pouring into Whitehall, the latest British “bar & kitchen” from the owners of the aforementioned restos. Outfitted in the classic combo of white subway tile, weathered wood and exposed dim bulbs, Whitehall’s décor is a refreshing change for diners who remember the pink and mirror explosion that was the old Sweetiepie space—it’s safe to bet that few adults will miss dining in the oversized birdcage. Instead, 30-somethings and their dates are packing around the bar for cocktails like the No. 1 (assam leaf-infused vodka, orange marmalade, lemon, milk and honey, $9) or a pint of Fullers London Pride ($8). They’re eating dishes like the Whitehall Burger (pickled beetroot, onions, lettuce and an over-easy egg, $16) and asking for HP Sauce for their fries…er, chips. This begs the question: with Scottish and English cuisine now sufficiently covered, will Welsh be next?
