Whitmans: East Village locavores looking for their next fix can now head to...a burger joint??? That’s right, thanks to Whitmans, organic-conscious eaters can stuff their faces with burgers and fries minus the guilt…well, minus the whole chemical part of it anyway (something tells us that the PB&B burger—grass-fed beef short rib blend, organic peanut butter, Heritage Farm bacon ($9)—with a side of homemade pickles ($3) and organic potato chips ($2), aren't part of the Biggest Loser diet). While the wine and cocktail lists are TBD, the beer choices reflect the theme—a mixture of local brews like Southampton Altbier ($6), organic brews like Peak Organics Summer ($6), $4 drafts and $3 cans of good old fashioned Bud Heavy. The décor is in line with the owners’ low-key attitudes—upstairs, simple brick walls are scattered with a few sparse old photographs (of Walt Whitman, naturally), while the downstairs dining room is lined with plywood and rooster wall paper. There's no real bar scene, but then again, why would you want to just drink when there’s a “Juicy Lucy” on the menu. |
