Wing Bar: Since Panino’teca flew the coop, Smith Street has been short one fancy restaurant, and with the recent arrival of Wing Bar…that’s still the case. Really, this place feels like a year-round version of your last Super Bowl party, so you can leave the heels at home. Instead of red wine braised pork—or braised anything, really—you get a damn good-looking burger ($7.50), complete with artery-torturing sides like fried pickles and fried Brussels sprouts ($5 each). As for the titular dish, platters range from a dozen to 100, so expect to see a lot of “wing men”—especially with $7.50 pitchers and $5 mixed drinks (including a mean Tito’s Vodka Martini) to knock ‘em back with. Past the frat-boy fare, though, the look and feel of the old joint hasn’t changed all that much: The backyard is still in full effect, and Panino’teca’s laminated bar (vintage pin-up photos and all), remains proudly intact. Look at it this way: You didn’t lose a restaurant. You gained a hang-out spot. |
