Xiao Ye: Where else can you sip on a “Not Guilty,” featuring OJ (get it?), soy milk and vodka, but at Eddie Huang’s playful new venture on the Lower East Side. After successfully opening BaoHaus only eight month’s prior, Huang has set his sights on a late-night mid-twenties crowd, serving up an ever-changing array of Asian-inspired cocktails ($10-12) that are as fun to order as they are to drink (try the “Milk Skywalker,” alcoholic milk tea with homemade soy milk). While the names may be tongue-in-cheek, the drinks themselves are serious business—fresh, exotic creations served in red 12-ounce porcelain cups, you know, kinda like the ones you used for beer pong last weekend. With VICE Magazine-esque personal photos gracing the dark walls, candles lighting the cozy space and a welcoming staff, the bar exudes edginess and openness at the same time. And as for the food, well, Xiao-ye means “midnight snack” in Chinese, but based upon the way the masses inhaled dishes like the "Buddha Sex Cabbage,” it might best be described by the bar’s original name—crack haus.
