XIX: XIX: The Roman numeral for 19. XIX: A Roman inspired underground lair where a cocktail costs more than $19. Ah, the ancient Romans, you gotta admit they lived the good life for quite some time—drinking wine, creating art, worshipping hot goddesses. Rome may have fallen, but XIX, the new lounge with an inevitably humbling door policy (run by Disco of Bungalow 8 infamy), is keen on bringing the golden age back to NY. Upon entering through Travertine, the admitted few will see red…literally. Red banquettes, red Persian rugs, red columns...the only thing not entirely red is the slabs of murals depicting Roman warriors and their battle stories (which in all honesty, more closely resemble cave drawings). The crowd is hit or miss and old men with their young, foreign, Herve Leger-wearing posse seem to rule the empire more than Nolita hipsters do. Hopefully XIX will continue to flourish, because sadly, even the greatest empires eventually collapse. |
