Zengo & La Biblioteca: After opening iterations in D.C. and Denver, chef/owner Richard Sandoval (Maya, Pampano) and design firm AvroKO (Double Crown, Public), have now opened an NYC outpost of their Latin-Asian restaurant/lounge/bar, Zengo. The sprawling tri-level’s dimly lit main floor features high ceilings with suspended rows of wooden beams, wrought iron screens, a striking iron chandelier crafted in Guadalajara, and rows of tables and cozy banquettes for dining on moderately priced dim sum, taco, and empanada options. Expect to see suits aplenty packing into this sleek space for expense account meals and post-work noshing and boozing (especially those with an affinity for tequila). Playing off of Sandoval’s Mexican heritage, Zengo’s boasts a downstairs bar, La Biblioteca, stocked with a selection of over 400 tequilas and mescals (tastings are hosted Tuesday nights), and Mexican street food-inspired eats. In short, think of Zengo as the Latin-Asian equivalent of Dos Caminos. |
