Zi'pep:
Punctuation in the middle of a restaurant name is always scary, but Zi’ Pep quickly allays any fears with its homey atmosphere and heartwarming Italian grub. Old-school Italiano to the nth degree, Zi’ Pep is the reincarnation of a popular joint from the 1930s (run by the current owner’s grandparents, whose photos adorn the walls). The small restaurant seats about a dozen and features Southern Italian favorites, many offering riffs on classic “macaroni” ($11-17). There are meat dishes too, such as grilled lamb chops ($28) and guinea hen for two ($35) if you’re avoiding those carbs. The copper bar serves a substantial list of wines by the glass ($7-16) with even more bottle options from “The Boot,” all reasonably priced. On warmer evenings, there’s a backyard to while away the night playing bocce (seriously) or laying low. Either way, you'll turn New York’s fast-paced lifestyle on its head—which is reason enough to be glad this place has been brought back to life!
