Zinc Bar:
This jazz club is a dark, subterranean bar with a tiny stage smack in the middle of its long passageway. In the front, relax and enjoy the nightly entertainment (ranging from Brazilian jazz to Cuban and African tunes), but note there is a $5 cover charge. The layout of the bar is not really conducive to live music, and if you venture past the mini-musical area, you’ll find the real attraction of this bar, the sultry backroom. So dark you can’t see who you’re swapping spit with, this candlelit cave is complete with dark walls, a low ceiling, and a marauding cat to set the mood for getting hot and heavy; but if you want to make sure you can still see through your beer goggles, bring a flashlight.
The music is great and is the reason to go there, but double check your bill before you pay. I bought two glasses of wine at the bar and when I ordered two more at the table, the price was higher. The waitress actually tried to play it off as a sales tax that only applied to the tables and not to the bar. I had to get the manager to take care of it.
